2009 Charles Darwin £2 Coin
The Charles Dawin £2 coin from 2009 can still be found in your change, on average you would see one of this coin design in every 151 two pound coins received as change.
This amazing coin features Charles facing a chimpanzee face to face on the front of the coin.
The two-pound coin was released to marks 200 years since Darwin's birth. The reason for having a chimpanzee with Darwin was due to them being one of the closest genetic relatives to humans, and an important part of the evolution model. This reverse design was created by Suzie Zamit and is used with the obverse by Ian Rank-Broadley. The edge inscription states "ON THE ORIGIN OF SPECIES 1859" – the name of the book Darwin published his theory in.
This coin is worth on average of £5 - £10 depending on condition as it has been in circulation for many years now!
WWF 2011 50P Coin
The WWF 2011 50P coin has proved very popular with many people taking to online sites like eBay to purchase and have in their collections.
Featuring many different species of animals, that coin was released to celebrate 40 years of the work of the World Wildlife Fund, with a design in line with this commemoration.
In the centre of the coin is a panda and it's surrounded by various animals and elements of nature. There are carefully selected images of mammals, birds, fish, insects, lizards, fruit, seeds, trees, and plants as well as icons that represent the human impact such as a footprint.
This coin is rare as there where only just over 3 million put into circulation so it has become a collectors piece over the last few years.
TV And Film Coins
Sherlock Holmes 50p Coin
This beautiful 50p coin was designed by Stephen Raw and features the profile of the fictional detective Sherlock Holmes, who's wearing his iconic deerstalker hat and smoking pipe.
The coin was released into circulation on the day when Sherlock Holmes creator Arthur Conan Doyle would have turned 160 in 2019.
Since the author is most recognised for his widely read detective stories, there is no better way to honour the writer's most well-known creation than with a coin featuring the character and book titles that correspond.
Unfortunately the coin isn't very rare as there was 8,602,000 coins put into circulation.
